But, with Lin throwing everything he's got at the screen, F9 delivers the goods when it comes to the huge set-pieces, particularly any time a magnet is involved, and Diesel, rumbling with each line reading, remains a fascinating screen presence in these films, which still feel personal to him despite their ridiculous scale and unapologetic cheesiness.- Dan Jackson

The plot is mostly nonsense John Cena is not a particularly compelling villain the "comedy" bits stop the movie in its tracks.

If you find these proudly melodramatic, unrepentantly goofy movies tedious, F9 will not be the one to win you over.

He's clearly doing some necessary tune-up work here, stripping the series for parts (say goodbye to The Rock!) and futzing with the engine (say hello to some surprisingly compelling flashbacks to Dom's teenage years!). Why it’s great: After the bloated Fate of the Furious, which found the Fast franchise careening off the icy cliff of self-parody and into the freezing waters of self-indulgence, F9 serves as a necessary course correction courtesy of filmmaker Justin Lin, who helmed the best entry in the series with Fast Five and saved it from direct-to-DVD purgatory with Tokyo Drift. #PURCHASE CINEMATIC STRINGS 2 UPDATE#
Like in years past, we'll update this list throughout the year as more new releases arrive in theaters and drop on streaming services. The goal is simply to keep track of the best new movies released in 2021 as they come out. Hopefully, that makes a list like this more useful than ever. With movies getting hybrid releases and major studios attempting to make a return to "normal," it's hard to predict exactly what will come out and when, even as theaters open back up with capped, socially distanced seating. This year has been different in at least one significant way: It's strange. Legato is handy and sometimes important, but it's a lot less important than it looks in the showroom when it comes to practical, everyday use.At the beginning of last year, it was impossible to predict just how much the moviegoing experience would change over the following months as theaters across the globe closed, many films shifted to a streaming-only release strategy, and blockbusters got punted to a year or two later in the wake of the pandemic. Perfect.Īnother thing I see a lot of round here, is a lot of emphasis on legato. For example, I just sent a track in that is nothing special because it's for a genre that is not really all that serious and is just for underscore, bed use, Tried with big strings and it just isn't any good. SCS covers most arcs required like pizz, legato, efx etc.

Spitfire Sable aka SCS, which I do have, is about as good as it gets for most string applications for TV unless you're using really good players in a top notch sounding environment like Abbey. Whereas SCS can fool me into thinking I'm a big shot string player/arranger.

One of the differences in all the full section string libraries and SCS, is that full string libraries don't really ever cut completely versus the real thing equivalent. I was never great at them anyway, so SCS is a good excuse. I've moved completely away from full blown scores. There are times when I get out the big guns, but it's very rare these days. It looks great in the showroom, but when you get it home, it's way bigger than you thought it would be and you wind up taking it back and getting something similar, but smaller. I like the idea of the big sounding Hollywood sweeping strings through nostalgia more than anything else, but it becomes a bit like furniture. Most of the time from my personal perspective, I just can't use big, thick sounding strings that much, simply because for TV usage they're just that. That said, I spent a lot of time with Big sounding full strings libraries and in the end it's like flogging a dead horse for a lot of the applications the sound is meant to be required for. I don't have CSS, but I would gladly take it.
